Bellows Breath Concerto
for accordion and string orchestra
Air - the essential element in the creation of sound - forms both the conceptual and sonic center of Bellows Breath Concerto.
The idea of breathing plays a structural and formative role in the piece. On the formal level, as well as in the details of phrasing, the music draws inspiration from meditative techniques in which rhythmic, layered breathing becomes the foundation of focus and inner calm.
The concerto?s form, setting the individual voice of the soloist against the collective force of the orchestra, reflects the tension between the individual and the oppressive majority. Bellows Breath Concerto is thus not only a study of breath but also a metaphor for the struggle for individual rights in the face of systemic constraints.
The work pays homage to the power of breath as the fundamental carrier of sound, emotion, and life, while at the same time raising questions about social justice and the value of the individual voice in dialogue with the surrounding world.
Commissioned by the Festival of Premieres in 2025, the concerto was written for Rafał Łuc and the AUKSO Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Marek Moś.
